Malone Central School District residents voted 216 to 72 on Tuesday, May 21, to approve a $72.5 million budget proposal, a $7.5 million capital reserve fund proposition, a bus purchase proposition, and a solar project proposition. Voters also elected Philip Hans and Terrence Maguire to the Board of Education.

“Thank you to all of the Malone voters for supporting our students,” said Brandon Pelkey, superintendent of schools. “We are so excited about what this result means for our students. This work will improve all areas of our district.”

The primary focus of the budget is on improving academic growth and achievement while being respectful of community residents in these challenging economic times.

Bus Purchase Proposition:

Voters approved the proposition for the district to use $725,000 for the purchase of passenger buses and/or vans, as well as related equipment and apparatus, in line with the district’s goal to maintain a safe and efficient bus fleet. The vote was 219 to 74.

Solar Project Proposition:

Voters approved the district's proposition to secure a place in the grid queue with a vote of 181 to 78.

Capital Reserve Fund Proposition:

Voters approved the district's proposition to establish a capital reserve fund with an anticipated term of five years and a total amount of $7,500,000. This fund will be used for capital improvements to the district’s facilities, including reconstruction and renovation, roofing, asbestos abatement, heating/ventilation, masonry work, and windows. The vote was 201 to 59.

Board of Education Vote:

Two candidates were elected to the Board of Education:

  • Philip Hans: 249 votes

  • Terrence Maguire: 241 votes
